The Franz Kostner Hut is located in the eastern part of the Sella Group at an altitude of approximately 2,550 metres. It belongs to the municipality of Corvara in South Tyrol, Italy, and is run by the Agreiter family together with the CAI section of Bolzano. The hut is firmly built into the rocky slopes of the mighty Sella massif. At the foot of the impressive Piz da Lech (also known as Boeseekofel), it offers hikers and mountaineers an ideal place to rest – especially when touring Alta Badia or climbing the Boèspitze. Sustainability also plays an important role. Together with the Italian Alpine Club CAI, we have installed a modern grease separator (self-disposal type) on the Sella plateau. The project was implemented in a very short time thanks to close cooperation between planners, construction companies, installers and electricians. Even the entire logistics – from materials to personnel – were organised by helicopter. This project shows that environmentally friendly action is possible even at an altitude of over 2,500 metres.
